SGPC suspends asstt secy

SGPC president Avtar Singh today placed Daljit Singh Bedi, assistant secretary, under suspension with immediate effect. Earlier, he was transferred from the publicity wing to the Golden Offset Press following charges of moral turpitude.

The SGPC chief has also constituted a high-level fact-finding committee comprising Dyal Singh Kolyanwali, Rajinder Singh Mehta, Sant Tek Singh Dhanoula, Surjit Singh Garhi and Jagrup Singh Dhillon (executive members), who will submit the report within five days - two days before the annual general house meeting of the SGPC. However, Bedi pleaded that he was victim of some conspiracy. He alleged that he had been receiving threats from some persons holding high posts. He said he had already brought the matter to the notice of higher-ups in the SAD and SGPC.

Obama’s Success Is Making Us All Winners

Barack Obama's stunning victory in Iowa lifts our hearts, no matter whom we support. You can't help but be touched by a brilliant, passionate African American with a message of hope winning the vote of Iowa's presidential caucuses. Although it's only a first step in a long race for Obama, it is surely a giant step for America.

Nearly 44 years ago, Fanny Lou Hamer led the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party to the Democratic convention in Atlantic City, challenging a Mississippi delegation that had systematically excluded all blacks. Hamer had to kick open locked doors simply to gain a hearing. She was dismissed by President Lyndon Johnson as an "illiterate." In the end, two delegates from the Freedom Democratic Party were seated, on condition that Hamer not be among them. Four years later, Democrats required equal representation.

The Most Common Medication Errors

In the hospital, ask (or have a relative or friend ask) the name and purpose of each drug you are given. Be sure to tell your doctor the names of all the prescription and non-prescription drugs, dietary supplements, and herbal preparations you are taking every time he or she writes you a new prescription. This will help to prevent another type of medication problem, undesirable and potentially serious interactions among medications. Finally, never be afraid to ask questions. If the name of the drug on your prescription looks different than you expected, if the directions appear different than you thought, or if the pills or medication itself looks different, tell your doctor or pharmacist right away. Asking questions if you have any suspicions at all is a free and easy way to ensure that you don't become the victim of a medication error.

True blue tales

She is far behind the success of Australia's most popular history writer, Carlyon, with sales of The Great War topping 100,000 in hardback, following total sales of more than 160,000 for Gallipoli.

The Carlyon factor has gently shifted the goalposts for publishing Australian history, although Gilliatt says sales figures of about 10,000 are still considered good for any book, including Australian history.

Gilliatt also publishes Bailey's books, including Mr Stuart's Track, which won the $15,000 Westfield-Waverley Library Award for Literature at the end of last year. He calls Bailey a rare gem: a writer whose book arrives already polished and ready to go.

"I was completely intrigued by it," Gilliatt says of the first Bailey book, The White Divers of Broome.
