| Now-Rare Sabbaticals May Become Common for Execs
While a request for a six-month paid vacation now may leave most employers laughing, some HR experts believe that in the near future potential executives may expect such a deal as part of their recruiting package. In Europe, sabbaticals are called August—as Europeans traditionally leave their workplaces in droves—but in the United States, extended leave from work has historically been frowned upon. Most employers see such lengthy time away as a high-risk loss in productivity rather than as part of a solid benefits plan for top executives. The overwhelming majority of U.S. firms still don't offer such a program, but many believe that in the not-too-distant future sabbatical leave may become a staple of more benefit plans because of the looming talent shortage and difficulty in retaining key employees.
New rates blow for Howard
He's made a lot on tax-creep and not raising the tax-free threshold and then boasts a surplus. Now he's losing popularity he's happy to buy votes because his spin just doesn't ring well with the voters anymore. Children Overboard, lies about WMD in Iraq and a war that's cost us billions and they can't fix the problem they've created there. AWB . . . not to mention he and Abbott wanting to keep women in their place like it's still the 50s, etc. Posted by: Felix of ACT 6:10pm October 24, 2007 Comment 93 of 116 .
Blackballed at Yale
Cole is a professor of history at the University of Michigan and president of the Middle East Studies Association. He also has one of the largest audiences of Middle Eastern studies experts through his blog, Informed Comment, on which he publishes numerous updates a day about events in the Middle East. Cole is a tough critic of U.S. foreign policy and of Israel’s government — and his blog comments have been used for months by opponents of his appointment to kill it. Yale officials are not commenting on Cole’s status as a potential faculty member. Neither is Cole. A joint appointment in history and sociology had already been approved at the departmental levels. But on Friday, the blog Power Line reported that a senior appointments committee at Yale has overruled those votes, scuttling the move from Ann Arbor to New Haven.

Do you think the container store will EVER be in CC? No no no, you heard it here first, just go look at their demographic requirements for a store.....not here you could've ordered online, saved the gas, saved the environment and spent some time bettering the community you live in, not to mention your family. POST 12, gun stores would be great at Garrett's Gangland Plaza. Listen to yellowdog, he's barking the truth .
Datebook Diner: New owners fit Jesse's Embers
A few weeks ago, my uncle reminisced to me about how, as a young bachelor, Jesse's Embers on Ingersoll was his mainstay. He told me about a day in the 1960s when, after lunch, he and a buddy tried to convince owner Jesse Roush that he could surely fit one more table in the dining room. For an entire afternoon, they scrambled the tables every which way. Finally, they had to concede there was no way to fit even one more two-top in the snug little joint. .
An old hand in a strange new world
On the face of it, a retreat of that kind makes the buyer's due diligence look sloppy. And down the road, sellers could conceivably shy away from the buyer or seek special terms to protect themselves from still another broken deal. Just how rare are MACs? One New York private equity veteran recalls that he was selling a company when 9/11 occurred. The buyers, he remembers with enduring amazement, did not call a MAC. Today's credit crisis, however, has produced a few cases of buyers pulling the MAC lever. In the most noteworthy, a private equity group led by J.C. Flowers & Co. attempted to lower the price on its deal to acquire Sallie Mae by declaring a MAC, claiming that new congressional legislation had shattered the prospects for student lenders. Sallie Mae has sued the Flowers group, contending that it is owed a termination fee of $900 million.

Even among politicians who are endorsing action to combat global warming, there are varying degrees of commitment, notes Sue Reid, a staff attorney at the Boston-based Conservation Law Foundation. She pointed to Sen. Edward Kennedy and Congressman William Delahunt's opposition to the proposed Cape Wind project off Cape Cod as an example of how political positions on climate change can be fickle... Confessions of a Defecting Democrat -- Why Ron Paul is the Perfect ...
So, the Democratic Party sold out long ago. If the chosen ones, Obama or Hillary, and maybe Edwards gets elected, they will slightly change spending priorities but leave the American military empire fully intact. Corporate globalist money will remain completely in charge. However, if Ron Paul gets elected, all US troops from worldwide will be ordered home. The oppression of developing country workers by corrupt governments backed up by the CIA and US military will die a timely death. Workers will organize, and slave labor markets, which drive down the US worker’s standard of living will be no more. Since over 50% of US federal discretionary spending goes to military, President Ron Paul’s actions will result in a deluge of savings that will dramatically improve the standard of living in America. Democrats would NEVER make such a change, at least not the ones the Party doesn’t silence with their many dirty tricks.
