| LG Electronics Expands Popular 'ART COOL' Product Line With Inverter ...
The outdoor condensing unit provides quiet operation, making it neighbor-friendly. LG's ART COOL Inverter heat pump air conditioners use a variable speed compressor, rather than the constant speed found in conventional units. Instead of shutting off once the desired temperature is reached, the inverter compressor continues to operate at a low speed to maintain that temperature, resulting in quieter operation and greater energy efficiency when compared to conventional models that cycle on and off. The new models have efficiency ratings ranging from 16 to 19.7 SEER, which translates into excellent energy savings for the consumer. "Enhancing our advanced air conditioner technology builds on LG Electronics' position both as the largest supplier of residential air conditioner units and as a leading supplier of commercial units as well," said Steve Schmitt, National Sales Manager, LG Electronics.
A calmer, more confident Franchione
It's not like the normally reserved 56-year-old Kansan suddenly has morphed into Chris Rock, but there appears to be a definite personality change as he embarks on his critical fifth season with the Aggies. "It's like he's a new coach," senior offensive guard Kirk Elder said. Critics will suggest Franchione simply is joshing past the figurative graveyard, which is where a coach with a $2 million salary can find himself if he doesn't improve on a four-year record of 25-23. But his veteran team, which for the first time is comprised entirely of his recruits, is seeing another side of Franchione. He seems more relaxed, loose and almost jocular. Even in public, where he historically has chosen his words with caution, Franchione has lightened up.
The toxic legacy of plastic bags
However I still get some plastic bags, usually from fruit and vege markets. I use those as garbage bags.I doubt if the weight of the bags I get per week exceeds 20g of plastic. That's more than goes into milk jugs, soft drink bottles, etc. all of which I recycle by the way.If the goal is to keep plastic bags out of the waterways, then I think that's a good move. And people should use bins and not let plastic bags escape into the rivers and sea. But I think the amount of hydrocarbons saved by not using plastic bags at all is dwarfed by the petrol I burn in one trip to the market so that's not a cogent argument.
