However, despite the volatility as a result of the oil dependence, a global banks diversified geographic portfolio could provide built-in protection against such a downturn, the report said.
Though the approach of regional regulators toward foreign players was somewhat unclear, McKinsey said the recently created Dubai International Financial Centre and Qatar Financial Center enabled foreign banks to take part in wholesale financial services such as investment banking, asset management, commercial insurance and private equity.
